Coach Acosta is set to participate at a charity event in Puerto Rico

On December 23rd Coach Acosta is set to be at a baseball showcase what is very common as for the most part recruiting these days is done that way, but unlike most showcases this one is different as the registration fee for the participants is brand new toy which will be give to the children at the new mental health department at the San Jorge Children Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Coach Acosta in representation of Iowa Lakes Community College and our baseball program has teamed up with coaches from Weatherford College, in Texas, Monroe College in New York, the University of Puerto Rico - Bayamon, the Levittown Gators Class A baseball team to run this showcase in Puerto Rico.

Acosta said, "This is a great opportunity to give back, especially when it comes to a great cause like this one. I got the call from Coach Carlos Ramirez from Weatherford College asking me if I was going to be in Puerto Rico at all this December and coincidently, I'm there for that week of vacation, and after he told me that the event is coordinated through the JR98 foundation and that the toys are going to be given to the new unit of mental health care for children of the San Jorge Children Hospital, I told Coach Ramirez absolutely that I want to be part of it. Touching the lives of children is aways a reward and especially during Christmas times. It is a blessing. To me is special and a great honor to work this showcase with the JR98 foundation, which was created after Coach Ramirez son Jean Ramirez passing, he was a bullpen catcher/coach in the Major Leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays."
