Lakers Start Fall Season With a Bang

The Lakers traveled to Fort Dodge Country Club to compete in the Iowa Central Invitational to kick off the fall season. This tournament featured several men and women ICCAC programs and a couple of 4-year JV programs. The varsity lineup included sophomores Christian Prambs, Raul Jerez Martin, and Kale Ladwig. Freshmen Josh Matheason and Jayden Manthei round out the lineup. These men tallied 303 (+19) and took 1st place out of 13 teams. Three sophomores competed as individuals: Jacob Wiersma 84 (+13), Jude Walz 80(+9), Kane Ladwig 79(+8).

"I was very pleased for several reasons. Our two freshmen led the team, we had 3 players finish in the top 10, and each one of our guys had those moments of adversity but handled it extremely well. I mention it a lot but we have a very competitive region. The parity of talent among our teams makes the mental side even more important. I think that is what got us the win. Both Jayden and Josh had two double bogeys within their round, and their ability to stay locked in and post great scores made a big difference," said Coach Myers. "I would also like to highlight Kane Ladwig. He entered last fall with the worst case of shanks I've ever seen. He came to work every day last year trying several things to escape it. We saw glimpses of his potential occasionally, but never in a tournament. I don't know a lot of players who would be willing to battle the shanks for that long without calling it quits. So, for him to come out and post a score in the 70's was special. This crew has the potential to accomplish great things this year!"

The Lakers will travel to Mason City on Tuesday (9/17) to compete at the NIACC invitational.
