Lakers Stun #16 Trojans

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team split on their final day against North Iowa Area Community College. The Lakers won game one 10-0 in five innings and then lost game two 10-0. The Lakers are now 28-16 overall and 11-13 in conference.

GAME 1: 10 (ILCC), 0 (NIACC) 5 innings

MacKenna Jones threw a gem for the Lakers in game one. She pitched a shutout and saw just eighteen batters in the game. Jones allowed one hit with two walks, while striking out five in the game.

Alyssa Thorson led off the game with a single and then stole second. MacKenna Jones helped herself out by blasting a ball over the centerfield fence to put the Lakers up 2-0.

The second inning saw the Lakers put another run up on the board. With two outs, Kiaya Dunbar singled up the middle. She then stole second to put herself in scoring position and Thorson delivered with a single to score Dunbar.

The Lakers broke things open in the bottom of the fourth when Olivia Funk drew her second walk of the game. Macy Alderson followed with a homerun to put the Lakers up 5-0. With two outs, Thorson singled and then came around to score on a Bryn Bohmann homerun. Jones kept things going with a hard ball through the five/six hole and then advanced to second on a Paige Grafton single. Karisa Hernandez hit the Lakers third homerun of the inning to give them a 10-0 lead.

Alyssa Thorson was 3-3 with two runs and two stolen bases. MacKenna Jones was 2-3 with two runs batted in. Karisa Hernandez was also 2-3 at the plate with three runs batted in.

GAME 2: 10 (NIACC), 0 (ILCC) 5 innings

The roles were reversed in game two, as the Trojan offense was rolling. A Laker error and homerun allowed them to get on the board in the first inning. The game remained 2-0 until NIACC scored three in the fourth on two singles, one double, a homerun, and a walk. The final five runs were scored in the top of the fifth on one single, one triple, two homeruns, and a walk.

Alyssa Thorson and Kiaya Dunbar each had a hit in the game.  

The Lakers will play a doubleheader tomorrow, April 25th, at 2:00 and 4:00 PM against Southeast Community College.
