Thorson Named NFCA All-American

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that 36 athletes were chosen as All-Americans. One of those athletes was Iowa Lakes Community College's Alyssa Thorson. Thorson was named to the NFCA Junior College Division II All-American Second Team. This is the second NFCA All-American in the program since 2010.

Thorson was very honored by this award and had this to say, "I am grateful to be receiving this award. I can't thank my teammates and coaches at Iowa Lakes enough. They showed me what being a part of something bigger than myself was. I am proud to be part of the Iowa Lakes softball family."

Thorson, a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska, is the daughter of Rob and Kirstin Thorson. She played in 44 of 54 games, only being sidelined for an injury in the middle of the season. Thorson compiled a .520 batting average, a .566 on-base percentage, and a .900 slugging percentage. She racked up 78 hits, including 21 doubles and 12 homeruns. From the leadoff position, Thorson scored 42 of her teammates, while crossing the plate 73 times herself. She stole 37 bases on the season and was only caught stealing one time. Impressively, Thorson struck out just three times on the entire season.

This season, Thorson has also been named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Frist Team All-Region and the Defensive Player of the Year. She was also selected as an NFCA Junior College Division II All-Region Midwest First Team recipient.

Coach King had this to say, "I am so unbelievably proud of Alyssa and all her accomplishments this year. This season was not easy for her, battling different injuries, but she never gave up. Her love for the game and desire to be on the field every day was impressive. Alyssa can really do it all. She has the power numbers with 12 homeruns but also has the speed with 37 stolen bases. She is one of the most dynamic players I have ever coached, and I cannot wait to see what she continues to accomplish in her career."
