Laker Softball Drop Two Against #3 Eagles

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team dropped two games to #3 ranked Kirkwood Community College. The Lakers are now 11-17 overall and 2-7 in conference.

Game One: KCC 11, ILCC 2 (5 innings)

Kirkwood jumped out to the early lead, scoring four in the bottom of the first. They did this on five hits, including one homerun. They scored five more in the second on four hits and two Laker errors.

Iowa Lakes got on the board in the top of the third inning with a leadoff homerun by Yasmine Nix. Julia Sullwold hit a one out single before advancing to second on a Lopez fielder's choice. Kaitlin Walsh hit a two out double to score Sullwold and bring the score to 9-2. Kirkwood scored another two runs in the bottom of the third on two hits and one walk.

Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed eleven runs, ten earned, on eleven hits, one walk, and struck out two Eagle batters. Offensively, Yasmine Nix was 2-2 with a homerun. Julia Sullwold was 3-3 and Kaitlin Walsh was 2-3 with a double and one run batted in.

Game Two: KCC 16, ILCC 3 (5 innings)

The Eagles again took a quick lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first on two hits, two walks, and one hit batter. They put up seven in the second inning on three hits, four walks, one hit batter, and three Laker errors. The Eagles scored another run in the third on a solo homerun.

Kaitlin Walsh put the Lakers on the board in the fourth with a homerun to center. Kacie Salazar quickly followed with a double down the left field line, before scoring an another Yasmine Nix homerun. Kirkwood scored again in the bottom half of the inning on five hits and two walks to complete the 16-3 Eagle win.

Bibiana Rosales took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed twelve runs, seven earned, on seven hits, six walks, and two hit batters. Naomi Tolmachoff allowed four runs on four hits and walked two batters. Kacie Salazar was 2-2 with a double, while Kaitlin Walsh and Yasmine Nix each homered in the game.

The Lakers are set to have their first home game on Tuesday, April 10th, at 5:00 and 7:00 PM against Dakota State University.
