Tough Conditions Get Best of Lakers in Ames

The Iowa Lakes women's golf team was back in action at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames, Iowa for the DMACC Fall Invite yesterday. The Lakers were hoping to ride some momentum coming off a win in their last event, however that would not be the case. The Lakers would wind up finishing in fourth place with a team score of 368. Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore Kelly Winter with an 89.

Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber was asked about his teams performance after the event: "The team as a whole had some really strong stretches, but then would have some inexcusable laps of judgement and focus and it prevented them from posting scores they are capable of. This team has the talent, it's just a matter of bringing it all together for 18 holes."

Freshman Gretchen Hofstad closely followed her teammate with a round of 91. Abby Gaudian came in with a 93, and Isabella Santistevan carded a 95 to finish up the team's counting scores. Freshman Somer Hudson posted a 96 for a team non-counting score, and Madilyn Shandorf also posted a 96 as an individual.

"The ladies will have some time off here to regroup and focus on the small details and be ready to wrap up the season down in Grandview on the 19th and 20th. It has been a great fall getting back to competing, so fingers crossed we can finish the season strong and have some confidence going into the spring season." added Coach Weber.

The Lakers will look to cap off their fall season with a strong showing at the Grandview Fall Invitational on October 19th and 20th at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.
