The Iowa Lakes women's golf team played round one of four of 2021 NJCAA Women's Golf Championship today at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club. The Lakers posted a team score of 406, putting them in 18th place. Sophomore Kelly Winter led the Lakers with a 95 and sits in a tie for 73rd in the 114 player field. Seminole State leads the tournament with a team score of 298, with Seminole State's Minori Nagano leading the tournament with an even par 72.

"Today was just not our day, not even close." Said Laker golf coach Jarvis Weber. "We were not mentally focused or prepared for what the day was going to bring, and that falls squarely on me as a coach. I need to do a better job putting my players in a better position to succeed. After that, we simply need to hit good shots."

Other round scores for the Lakers included Isabella Santistevan with a 98, Abby Gaudian with a 105, and Gretchen Hofstad with a 108.

"The national tournament has a different feel and nerves got the best of us today. Hopefully now they are gone and we can go out and post scores we are capable of. This group has a lot of resolve and grit, and we'll need all of that tomorrow morning to bounce back after today."

The Lakers will tee off for round two of four in the morning wave at 8:20 AM ET. Live scoring can be found on Golf Stat with the link below.
