Lakers Move Up Leaderboard

The Lakers took to the links today for round two of the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club. After a dismal round one, Iowa Lakes improved by 28 shots and climbed up two sports on the leaderboard. Leading the charge for the Lakers was freshman Abby Gaudian with an 88, shaving 17 shots from her first round score. The first wave of tee times were able to finish their rounds, however the afternoon wave was postponed due to severe weather in the area. The remaining second rounds will be finished in the morning and round three will presume after.

"Day one was not our best, not by a long shot. We have plenty of room for improvement, and we showed some improvement today" said Laker golf coach Jarvis Weber. "We still have more to improve, but it's a step in the right direction. We have some new goals for the week and will look to continue to climb the leaderboard."

The Lakers climbed up from 18th to 16th, and sit 12 shots behind Central Wyoming (15th), 26 shots behind Spartanburg Methodist (14th), and 36 shots behind Blinn College (13th).

Other scores for the Lakers were Isabella Santistevan with a 92, Gretchen Hofstad with a 99, and Kelly Winter with a 99.

"We are a better team and have better players than we have shown thus far. The team is getting more comfortable and confident, so we will look to keep momentum moving forward and catch the teams ahead of us." added coach Weber.

The forecast is looking to have scattered thunderstorms over the next two days, so being able to get the final two rounds in of the tournament may be a challenge. The Lakers are set to tee off for round three at 9:20 AM ET. Live scoring is available via GolfStat with the following link.
