Santistevan Leads Lakers at NIACC

Returning sophomore Isabella Santistevan lead a strong Iowa Lakes attack on Mason City Country Club on Tuesday at the North Iowa Area Community College Fall Invite. The Lakers would post a new season best of 336 en route to a twenty-two shot victory of second place host NIACC. Santistevan earned medalist honors with a new personal best of three over par 75.

"Isabella played extremely confident and poised today" said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "She has all talent, all the shots, it's just a matter of her making it happen and I could not be happier for her. She has worked her tail off the last year and it is awesome to see her get a taste of that success."

Not far behind Santistevan was sophomore Kelly Winter who would also post a career best with a seven over par 79 and would earn runner-up honors.

"Kelly and Isabella served an incredible one-two punch today. They are capable of doing this every single day, so hopefully this is just a glimpse of what is to come. This group has worked very, very hard this off-season and in practice, so I know there is more in the tank and they will lead us to where we want to be" added Coach Weber.

Abby Gaudian and Paige Wieck would also post strong rounds by finishing in the top-ten with rounds of 91. Carli Gebel would come in with a score of 102.

"One person can't win you a golf tournament. It takes a team." said Coach Weber. "This is a good group with a lot of potential. I know they all have a lot more to give and will continue to work hard to get us to achieve our goals and I am excited to see where they go."

The Lakers will have a week off to get prepared for the DMACC Fall Invite on September 15th in Ames at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
