Lakers Take Home Third Win of the Fall

The Iowa Lakes women's golf team finished in first for the third straight tournament this fall with a tie-breaker win over host Des Moines Area Community College at the DMACC Fall Invite. The Lakers would post a team score of 349. Coming down to the fifth-score tie breaker, Carli Gebel's round of 100 would best DMACC's fifth score of 101.

"Last week we discussed that it takes a team to win a golf tournament. Today was a great example of that." said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "We didn't have the scores we wanted today, but we still found a way to get it done and that is what it's all about."

Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore Kelly Winter who has this to say about another career best with a tournament low round of 77; "Twas a good day."

"Kelly is an incredibly gifted player who has worked extremely hard to start seeing results" adds Coach Weber. "Last week we got to see Isabella break through, and this week Kelly did. As a coach, that is so rewarding and I am truly excited to see where these girls can lead us. Could not be happier for Kelly today, very much deserved."

Not far behind was teammate Isabella Santistevan who would post a score of 82 and take home a runner-up finish.

"Isabella is playing well right now and that is great to see. I know she wasn't all that excited about today's round as she thought she left more out there, but that is a big step forward in her development." added Coach Weber.

Abby Gaudian would post a round of 92, Paige Wieck a 98, and Carli Gebel a 100.

"Abby has a lot more to give, and she knows it. She is working hard and once she finds that balance, we will have a very, very strong 1-2-3 with our sophomores. I'm confident she will get there soon, and it's going to be an awesome day when that happens" said Coach Weber. "Paige and Carli are learning, and today they learned that even if they don't think they are playing well or needed for the team, they are. It takes everybody to win, and that was great to see today."

The Lakers have a good long rest before they hit the gauntlet of their season with four straight weekend events starting with the Kansas Weslyan University Fall Invite on September 27th and 28th down in Salina, Kansas.
