Lakers Win the Grand View Invitational

Iowa Lakes was able to kick off their spring season after a long stretch of bad weather. The Laker Men traveled down to Ankeny, Iowa to compete in the Grand View Invitational. Grand View hosted the tournament at Otter Creek.

"I have been impatiently waiting for these men to get out and showcase what they're capable of even though we have had very limited practice." said golf coach Mike Myers "I'm extremely proud of how determined this group is to work on their game regardless of the weather. This tournament really showed how strong these men are mentally."

(Sophomore) Ciaran Jones and (Freshman) Janlo Zaayman led the tournament individually with rounds of 72(+1) and a tie for 1st. (Billy Lyons) was close behind turning in a score of 77. (Sophomore) Kendall Nicolai and (Sophomore)Lucas Gunderson grinded out rounds of 80 and 84 to round out our varsity lineup. (Sophomore) Conal Downing, who competed as an individual, carded an 83.

Iowa Lakes also took home the team win with a 301 total.

"The high winds and lack of practice set the table for our men to have a rough first tournament this spring. But I can't say enough about how well they battled through adversity. The confidence gained from this first tournament will play a huge role moving forward. I'm honored to start my coaching career with the talented players we have this year. The sky is the limit for these men, and I can't wait to see how the rest of this spring plays out." said Coach Myers.

"Thanks to Coach Winkel for hosting a great tournament at a beautiful course. Between the staff at Otter Creek and Coach Winkel, the tournament was able to run flawlessly from start to finish allowing us to return home at a good time."

Laker women kick off their spring season Monday (4/14/23) in Mason City at Highland Park Golf Course.
