The Laker Men's Golf Team will compete in the 2023 NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship May 23rd-May 26th. The team had their sights on qualifying for nationals when they arrived on campus last August. Sophomores Ciaran Jones, Billy Lyons, Kendall Nicolai, Lucas Gunderson, and freshman Janlo Zaayman placed 3rd at regionals as a team, earning a chance to compete in one last tournament as a team at the national level.
"Any time a player makes it to nationals, it's a very special achievement." said Iowa Lakes golf coach Mike Myers. "But being able to compete as a team for one last tournament is even more special. It has been special to see how tight of a family this team has become and for them to earn a chance to play in one last tournament together before moving on is very exciting. Based on their raw talent and hard work they've put in; we have every reason in the world to expect to bring home some hardware," said Head Coach Mike Myers.
"I can't speak enough on how awesome the last couple months have been coaching these young men. At regionals, everyone played a significant role in accomplishing this goal. A great team separates itself by having guys step up on any given round to post competitive, low scores. That's exactly what these men did at regionals. Although getting through regionals was a goal worth celebrating, we aren't satisfied and must refocus on improving to compete on the biggest stage against the best talent in the country at the JUCO level," added Coach Myers.
The Lakers travel on May 20th to Plymouth, Indiana for practice rounds May 21st and 22nd. The tournament competition is from May 23rd – 26th. The 2023 NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship will be hosted by Swan Lake Resort.
