Positive End to Fife's Freshman Year

Positive End to Fife's Freshman Year

Lady Laker Karli Fife traveled down to Dodge City, Kansas, to compete in the Women's D1 Plains District Championship. The 2-day, 36-hole tournament was hosted at Mariah Hills Golf Course. The competitive field featured 55 women. Fife carded a 98 (+27) on the first day. Day 2, Fife improved her score by 8 strokes tallying a 90 (+19) for a T-35 finish.

"It's tough to put into words how cool it was to watch Karli's hard work come to fruition. She came in with a lot of raw talent but needed to polish some areas of her game. Her wedges around the green were one of those areas. Mariah Hills Golf Course had rough that was very thick and grabby. Short-sided chip shots around the greens were more difficult than usual. It took her the majority of the first round to get adjusted to the tough playing conditions. We went to the course 30 minutes earlier on day two so that we had extra time to practice out of the rough. She started round two with a lot more confidence and composure. That led to an 8-stroke improvement", Coach Myers added. "Our lack of players on the lady's side forced her to be self-motivated in order to continue to improve. She never complained; she just worked hard. I'm really excited to see what we can do next year with the addition of a very talented freshman class!"
