Iowa Lakes Community College Head Coach, Katie Larson, announced the signing of Madeline Cantu to the 2018-2019 recruiting class. Madeline is the daughter of Joe and Ginny Cantu and played for the La Vernia High School Bears.

"We want to welcome Madeline and her family to the Iowa Lakes family today," said Larson. "Madeline is a go-getter type of student-athlete. She is the type of kid that will never settle for average in anything that she does. She is going to be a tremendous role-model to the youth in her community as well as the Estherville community. As an athlete, Madeline has a powerful swing. She is going to have that gap to gap power that we look for in many of our athletes. She will fit right into the structure of our program and will provide us with some power in our lineup. We cannot wait to get Madeline here and see her play in the Laker uniform."

Madeline is a middle infielder from La Vernia, Texas. In her senior season, Madeline compiled a .323 batting average with 42 hits, including 7 doubles and 2 homeruns. She drove in 30 of her teammates, while having an on-base percentage of .589. Madeline is a four-year letter winner for the Bears and received 1st Team All-District honors in both the 2016 and 2017 high school seasons.

Off the field, Madeline has also excelled. She was a Presidential Scholar of Education in 2015, La Vernia High School Student Council Treasurer, and a TFA Debate-Congress finalist.

Madeline had this to say about choosing Iowa Lakes, "As soon as I stepped foot at Iowa Lakes, I knew I would love it there. The atmosphere was great, the people were sweet, and the players were awesome. I automatically pictured myself playing on the Iowa Lakes Softball team and fell in love with the idea of continuing my career in softball  and having fun while making new memories at Iowa Lakes."
