Laker Softball Season Comes to an End

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball came to an end at the regional tournament this past weekend. The Lakers went 1-2 on the weekend to finish the season with a 19-32 record.

GAME 1: 9 (NIACC), 1 (ILCC)

 The Trojan were able to score in three innings during the game. They scored two runs in the first on a single and a two out homerun.

The score remained 2-0, until Taylor Larson hit a solo homerun in the fourth to bring the Lakers within one. NIACC quickly struck back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits and two errors.

NIACC scored their final two runs in the fifth on three hits and a walk.

The Lakers were led at the plate by Taylor Larson who was 1-3 on the day with a homerun. Ally Davis was 1-2 with a double. Jolene Jordal suffered the loss, throwing 3.2 innings. She allowed seven runs, two earned, on six hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Taylor Larson threw .2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on two this, three walks, and two strikeouts.

GAME 2: 15 (ILCC), 7 (HCC)  

 With the Lakers now in the losers bracket, every game they played they were on the brink of elimination. They did not allow this to scare them, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Abby Buress led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. She advanced to third on a Larson single to center. Larson then drew a throw to second on her steal, allowing Burgess to score from third. Katelyn Hamm then grounded out, allowing Larson to move up sixty feet. Macy Alderson then stepped up to score Larson on a single.

The Lakers continued their offense, putting up four runs on two outs in the second. Brooklyn Bode singled and then stole second. Burgess followed with a double down the left field line to score Bode. A single from Murphy that was followed with a stolen base, put two runners in scoring position. Larson then delivered again for the Lakers, hitting a double and giving the Lakers a 5-0 lead. The final run was plated with a Hamm single up the middle to score Larson.

Hawkeye was able to get on the board in the third with a walk, single, and Laker error. With the score now 6-2, the Lakers knew they needed to continue to push offensively. Davis led off the third with a double before scoring on an Alexis Cullinane homerun. Alayna Leighton followed with a walk and then advanced to third on Bode's double. With one out, Murphy and Larson walked to score Leighton. Hamm then stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam over the center field fence to give the Lakers a 13-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth, the Redtails were able to score on a solo homerun. Then continued to chip away at the lead, scoring four in the top of the fifth. They did this on a walk, two singles, and a homerun.

With the score now 13-7, the Lakers needed to score just two runs to enact the mercy rule. Hamm was hit by a pitch and then advanced to third when Alderson reached on a Hawkeye error. Cullinane loaded the bases and with two outs Alyvia Jensen stepped up to the plate. She hit a hard groundball to right center, scoring both Hamm and Alderson to give the Lakers the victory.

Katelyn Hamm led the Lakers in the game, going 2-3 with five runs batted in. Taylor Larson was also 2-3 with three runs batted in, while Brooklyn Bode was 2-2 with two runs scored. Jolene Jordahl picked up the win, throwing four innings. She allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Taylor Larson threw one inning, allowing four earned runs on three hits, two walks, and one strikeout.

GAME 3: 10 (NIACC), 1 (ILCC)

Iowa Lakes was able to get on the board first in this elimination game. Hamm doubled down the third base line and then Alderson laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance her to third. Cullinane followed with a groundball to the right side, allowing Hamm to score.

Jordahl did a great job with the powerful Trojan lineup until the bottom of the third. The Lakers allowed six runs on six hits and one walk. NIACC scored their final four runs in the sixth on four hits.

Katelyn Hamm again led the Lakers at the plate, going 1-3 with a run scored. Jolene Jordahl took the loss, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits, two walks, and one strikeout. Taylor Larson threw the final 3.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
