Lakers Split with Indian Hills

Iowa Lakes Community College Softball split with #11 ranked Division I Indian Hills Community College on Saturday. Lexi Chase allowed just four hits in the opener to propel the Lakers to a 5-2 victory. The Lakers lost game two 8-0 in five innings.

GAME 1: ILCC 5, IHCC 2

Since the Lakers were supposed to be playing at home this weekend, they were the home team on the scoreboard.

Both teams remained scoreless until the Lakers struck in the bottom of the second. Kamryn Buntrock led off the inning with a walk, and Kiley Hill also walked with one out. With two outs and Buntrock still on second, Chase stepped up and singled to left to put the Lakers on the board.

The score remained 1-0 until the Warriors scored two runs in the top of the fifth. They started the inning off with back to back doubles to tie the score at one. With a runner at second, the next Indian Hills hitter stepped up and singled to right. A Laker error on the throw home allowed the second run of the inning to cross the plate. The Lakers buckled down after that and got out of the inning with two fly outs and a strikeout.

Iowa Lakes took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on two hits. With one out, Chase led off with a single to center and scored on an Eliya Johnson homerun.

With the Lakers up 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, they tacked on some insurance runs. Kaitlin Roundy led off the inning by wearing a pitch. She advanced to second from a single off the bat of Buntrock. The Warriors beaned Mackenna Otte to load the bases. Myah Ehlenfeldt came up clutch with a single to center to score Roundy and put the Lakers up 4-2. Buntrock scored the final Laker run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chase.

The Lakers were led at the plate by Lexi Chase, going 2-3 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Eliya Johnson, Myah Ehlenfeldt, and Kamryn Buntrock each had a hit of their own. Lexi Chase went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits. She struck out four and walked just one.

GAME TWO: ILCC 0, IHCC 8 (five innings)

The Lakers and Warriors played a strong game up until the fifth inning. The score remained 0-0, until Indian Hills busted things open in the top of the fifth. They scored eight runs on three hits, four walks, and three Laker errors.
