Lakers Split with #3 DMACC

The Iowa Lakes Softball played some great ball on Tuesday, winning one of their two games against #3 Des Moines Area Community College. The Bears took game one 2-1 before the Lakers won game two 9-6. Iowa Lakes is now 19-9 in conference and 19-11 overall.

Game One: DMACC 2, ILCC 1

Iowa Lakes and DMACC played a great game of softball in game one, with the Bears taking the edge in a 2-1 win.

Kamryn Buntrock scored the only run for the Lakers on a solo homerun in the bottom of the second.

The Lakers kept this lead until DMACC tied the game in the top of the fifth. The Bears hit a one out infield single and then stole second. DMACC took advantage of a wild throw and wild pitch to scoot their first run across the plate.

Iowa Lakes saw DMACC take the lead in the sixth on a solo homerun. Lexi Chase tried to get things started for the Lakers in their half of the inning when she led off with a double. Kailey Maksim laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Chase to third. Unfortunately, DMACC got the next two Laker batters to strikeout and fly out to end the threat.

Lexi Chase took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed two runs, one earned, on eight hits and a wild pitch while strikeout out five DMACC batters. Chase was also 2-3 at the plate, and Kamryn Buntrock hit a homerun in the game.

Game Two: ILCC 9, DMACC 6

Game two saw a lot more offense than game one. The Bears got on the board first in the second inning. They did this on five hits, one walk, and one Laker error.

The Lakers did not let that lead last long, as they put up four runs of their own in the second. Mackenna Otte hit a one out single and was followed by a Kiley Hill walk. Amanda Franke then drove a ball over the left field fence, tying up the ball game. Chase followed with a single and advanced to third on an Eliya Johnson single. Kaitlin Roundy put the Lakers on top with a single of her own to left, allowing Chase to score.

Franke again got things started for the Lakers in the fourth, when she led off the inning with a single. Back-to-back singles from Chase and Johnson loaded up the bases. Roundy again delivered with a single, scoring both Franke and Chase and putting the Lakers up 6-3. With Johnson now on second, Allie McCabe singled to left field, scoring Johnson.

Johnson and the Lakers put the Bears batters down in order in the fifth, which brought their hot bats up again quick. Franke was the spark plug once again, leading off with a single. Chase followed with a double down the left field line, scoring Franke from first. Maksim singled to right, advancing Chase to third, before Johnson singled to put the Lakers up 9-3.

DMACC tried to mount a comeback in the seventh, as they put up three runs on a single, double, homerun, and sacrifice fly.

Eliya Johnson earned the win for the Lakers. She pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs, five earned on ten hits and one walk while striking out three. At the plate, the Lakers were led by Amanda Franke. She was 3-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Lexi Chase was 4-4 with three runs score, while

Kaitlin Roundy was 2-3 with a walk and three runs batted in.

The Lakers will travel to Mason City, Iowa tomorrow, April 21st, to take on conference foe North Iowa Area Community College. Games times are 2:00 and 4:00 PM
