Eagles Too Much for Lakers

The Iowa Lakes Softball team travelled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on #7 Kirkwood Community College. Unfortunately, the Eagles offense was too much for the Lakers in both games. Kirkwood took game one 8-0 and game two 12-3. The Lakers are now 20-14 overall and 20-12 in conference.

 

Game One: KCC 8, ILCC 0

The Eagles scored their first run of the game on a leadoff homerun. They scored their next four runs in the bottom of the second on two singles, a hit by pitch, and a grand slam. Kirkwood scored again in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back to homeruns that were followed by a double and single. This put the Eagles up 8-0.

Lexi Chase took the loss for the Lakers, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits, one hit by pitch, while striking out five. Kiley Hill pitched the final inning of for the Lakers, allowing one earned run on three hits.

 

Game Two: KCC 12, ILCC 3

Kirkwood again got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. They did this on a walk, single, passed ball, sacrifice fly, and Laker error. The Eagle made the score 3-0 in favor of them in the second on a hit by pitch, single, Laker error, and sacrifice fly. Kirkwood blew things open in third, scoring eight runs. The Eagles scored on eight hits, a walk, and two Laker errors. They scored their final  run of the game in the fourth on a walk, double, and sacrifice fly.

With Kirkwood up 12-0, the Lakers needed to put up runs to extend the game. Emma Kral led off the inning with a walk and was followed by a Madison Hough hit by pitch. Mackenna Otte then stepped up and hit her first career homerun to give the Lakers three runs.

Eliya Johnson took the loss for the Lakers. She pitched 2.1 innings, allowing eleven runs, eight earned. She did this on ten hits and one walk. Kiley Hill pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks while striking out one. Mackenna Otte was the leader at the plate, going 1-2 with a homerun and three runs batted in.

The Lakers will battle it out with Kirkwood Community College tomorrow, April 25th, in the final two games of the series. Game times are 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
