#3 DMACC Takes Two From Lakers

The Iowa Lakes Softball team dropped two games to Des Moines Area Community College on Tuesday. The Lakers lost game one 7-3 and game two 21-1. The Lakers are now 20-18 overall and 20-16 in conference.

Game One: DMACC 7, ILCC 3

The Lakers took the early lead in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Kailey Maksim was hit by a pitch, but then forced out at second on a ground ball from Eliya Johnson. Kaitlin Roundy then drove a ball to left field to advance Johnson to second. Kamryn Buntrock followed with a ball that she hit off the centerfield fence to score both runners and give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

DMACC did not let the Laker lead last long, as they put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the first. The leadoff batter walked and then advanced on a single up the middle. Both runners then scored on a single and error by the Lakers. With a runner at second, the next Bear batter homered to right to put them up 4-2.

Iowa Lakes failed to score in the second, while DMACC put up one more run on two singles. The Bears tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a single and homerun.

Buntrock hit a one out double in the sixth to give the Lakers some life at the plate. Allison McCabe followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. Mackenna Otte hit a sacrifice fly to short center field, that allowed Buntrock to score. However, the Lakers failed to push another run across the plate and the Bears completed the 7-3 victory.

Buntrock led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-3 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and one run scored. Lexi Chase took the loss for the Lakers in the circle.

Game Two: DMACC 21, ILCC 1

Des Moines Area Community College's offense was rolling in game two. The Bears put up 21 runs, 18 of them earned, on seventeen hits, six walks, and one hit by pitch. The Iowa Lakes pitching staff struck out three Bear batters.

The Lakers only run of the game came on a Kailey Maksim homerun in the fourth inning.

The Lakers will be back at home on Wednesday, April 28th, at 2:00 and 4:00 PM when they take on Division I Iowa Western Community College.
