Lakers Topple Midland JV

The Iowa Lakes softball program advanced to a perfect 5-0 with a 12-6 win over Midland University JV. The Lakers continued their hot hitting, racking up twelve runs in four innings.

Karisa Hernandez got things rolling for the Lakers when she reached first on a Midland error. She advanced to third on a Bryn Bohmann walk and dropped third strike, that Kaitlin Roundy beat down the line. Amanda Franke then stepped up and blasted a ball to right center, scoring all three runners on base.

The second inning began with a walk to Kiley Hill. She then used her speed on the bases to swipe two bags. An Alyssa Thorson walk and stolen base put runners at first and second with the top of the lineup coming up to bat. Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Hill. Lexi Chase followed with a single, scoring Thorson from second and putting the Lakers up 5-0. With just one out, Chase stole second and scored on a Bohmann single. Bohmann advanced to second on a passed ball and came around to score on an Eliya Johnson double.

The Lakers found themselves in a jam in the bottom of the second, after some miscommunication loaded the bases. Chase got the next two Midland batters to fly out on the infield, before the final out was recorded on a fly out to Mackenna Otte.

With two outs in the top of the third, the Lakers got things going after Thorson drew a walk. Hernandez singled to the left side, advancing Thorson to third. Chase continued the ralley with another RBI single to left field. Bohmann followed with a line drive shot off the centerfield fence to make the score 10-0 in favor of the Lakers.

Allie McCabe kept the offense rolling with a two out walk in the fourth. Brielle Hogan was hit by a pitch and both runners advanced on a stolen base. McCabe scampered across the plate on a passed ball and Hogan soon followed on a single by Thorson.

The bottom of the fifth inning saw the Lakers give up their first runs of the game. Jayda Staige entered the game and struck the first batter that she saw out. She then walked a Midland batter, which was followed by an Iowa Lakes error, scoring a run. A walk and a homerun made the score 12-4. Staige then got the next Warrior hitter to line out to Thorson in center. A walk and a couple of singles allowed the final two runs of the game to score.

The Lakers were led at the plate by Bryn Bohmann. She was 2-3 with a walk, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. Lexi Chase added two hits and three runs batted in, while Amanda Franke contributed three runs batted in for the Lakers. Lexi Chase continued her tremendous pitching, allowing zero earned runs on two hits one walk and two strikeouts. Jayda Staige threw two innings for the Lakers. She allowed six runs, three earned on three walks and three strikeouts. MacKenna Jones pitched the final two innings for the Lakers, allowed no earned runs on one hit, one walk, and one strikeout.
