#1 DMACC Takes Two From Lakers

The Des Moines Area Community College softball team got the best of the Lakers today. The Bears won the first game 7-4 and the second game 4-0. The Lakers are now 4-5 in conference and 14-6-1 overall.

GAME 1: 7 (DMACC), 4 (ILCC)

DMACC got on the board first, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. The Bears scored the first three runs on a single, Laker error, and homerun. They started their offense over, hitting back to back singles and advancing on a pop fly to right. The last run of the inning scored on a ground out to Lexi Chase.

With the Bears up 4-0, the Lakers got themselves on the board with a leadoff Allie McCabe double. She scored on a Chase single. DMACC got the run back, scoring on a solo homerun in the bottom half of the inning.

Karisa Hernandez scored a Laker run in the fourth, when she got herself on base on a DMACC error. Hernandez then stole second and advanced to third on a Baylee O'Donnell single. McCabe hit a high fly ball, which allowed Hernandez to score from third.

The Bears again took advantage of some Laker miscues, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. They did this on a single, double, and two Iowa Lakes' errors.

Alyssa Thorson helped make things interesting in the top of the seventh when she hit a one out double. Chase hit one off the scoreboard in right field to make the score 7-4. Bryn Bohmann poked one through the right side of the infield, but unfortunately the Laker's rally ended there.

Lexi Chase led the Lakers at the plate going 3-4 with three runs batted in. Chase took the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned on nine hits. She struck out two DMACC hitters.

GAME 2: 4 (DMACC), 0 (ILCC)

The game was a pitching duel, remaining 0-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bears drew a leadoff walk and scored on a homerun. That was followed by a single and back to back errors which allowed DMACC to score two more runs.

Down 4-0, the Lakers again threatened in the top of the seventh. Kiley Hill drew a one out walk and advanced to second on a Thorson bunt single. DMACC got the next two Laker hitters to fly out to end the game.

Alyssa Thorson was 2-3 at the plate while Lexi Chase was 2-4. Eliya Johnson took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned on five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

The Lakers will travel to Council Bluffs on Wednesday to take on Division I Iowa Western Community College. Game times are set for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM
