On Johnson's steal, Chase alertly scampered home. Johnson then scored on Paige Grafton's single to left. The Tigers led off the game with a triple but Johnson got the next three batters out via line out, fly out, and ground out.

The Lakers again took advantage of the Tigers defense by putting two runs up on the board in the fourth. Grafton reached base on a throwing error and two runs came across the plate on an Allison McCabe homerun. With the Lakers up 4-0 and two outs in the inning, Alyssa Thorson singled, stole second, and scored on Chase's double.

Johnson and Jones both walked to start the third. Johnson was then forced out at third on a ground ball from Grafton. Jones advanced to third on the same ball when Marshalltown had a throwing error trying to get Grafton out at first. Jones scored on a passed ball to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead.

Back to back doubles brought them to within one run. The Tigers then used a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run just sixty feet away. They scored on an infield fielder's choice to make the score 5-5.

With their back against the walls, the Lakers delivered in the top of the seventh. Grafton led off the inning with a double. Kiley Hill then entered the game to run for Grafton. McCabe put down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to advance Hill to third. Brielle Bartelt poked a ball through the middle of the infield to score Hill and give the Lakers the lead.
