The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team dropped two games to the #6 DMACC Bears. The Lakers lost game one 8-1 and the second game 13-4. Iowa Lakes is now 17-9 overall and 4-6 in conference.
GAME 1: 8 (DMACC), 1 (ILCC)
The Bears were able to take the early lead, when they scored one run in the top of the first on three singles. They were able to add to their lead in the top of the fourth with a homerun, two Laker errors, a walk, and a single.
With the Lakers down 4-0, Alyssa Thorson got them on the board with a solo homerun.
DMACC scored two more runs in the fifth on a single and homerun. They scored their final two runs of the game in the seventh on a double and homerun.
MacKenna Jones picked up the loss, pitching all seven innings. She allowed eight runs, six earned, on eleven hits and three walks. Jones struck out seven Bears in the game. Alyssa Thorson was 1-2 with a homerun and walk.
GAME 2: 13 (DMACC), 4 (ILCC)
DMACC jumped out to the early lead scoring five runs in the top of the first. They did this on two singles, two hit by pitches, and a grand slam. They scored another five runs in the second on three hit by pitches, one single, and a grand slam. The Bears put two more on the board in the third on a single and homerun.
Iowa Lakes showed some fight in the third, when Kiaya Dunbar led off the third with a double to right. She then came around to score on a Bryn Bohmann homerun.
The Bears scored their final run of the game in the fourth on a solo homerun. The Lakers got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning when O'Donnell and Jayda Staige went back to back on homeruns.
Jayda Staige took the loss for the Lakers, pitching one inning. She allowed seven earned runs on three hits, one walk, and five hit by pitches. Baylee O'Donnell pitched four innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits and one hit by pitch. She struck out two batters in the game. O'Donnell was 2-2 at the plate for the Lakers. Bohmann, O'Donnell, and Staige each had a homerun in the game.
The Lakers will take on Des Moines Area Community College tomorrow, April 3rd. Games will be played at Iowa Lakes Community College, with the doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM
