As the 2023-2024 regular season comes to a close, the Lakers start their postseason as the #6 seed in the NJCAA Region XI-B Tournament. The Lakers will face the #3 seeded NIACC Trojans on May 3 at 4 PM in Boone, IA.
"We are really excited to get started in the regional tournament. We are a youth filled team, so as the year has continued, we have only gotten stronger and stronger. If we go out and play the way that we know we can, we will be turning some heads this weekend." commented Coach King.
There have been several offensive contributors for the Lakers, starting off with Taylor Larson. In Larson's rookie season, she has a .344 batting average, a .469 on base percentage, 10 homeruns, and 40 RBIs. The next Laker is Abby Burgess. Burgess has a .336 batting average, a .483 on base percentage, 15 homeruns, and 46 RBIs. Myla Murphy has a .320 batting average, and a .442 on base percentage. Murphy has been hit by a pitch 6 times this season, as well as drawn a walk 22 times. Macy Alderson has added 10 homeruns to the Laker offense, as well as 35 RBIs. Myla Murphy is currently 2nd in the conference for stolen bases with 36, closely followed by Abby Burgess in 3rd with 33. In the circle for the Lakers, Taylor Larson has seen 136.2 innings, throwing 90 strikeouts, and a 6.91 ERA. Jolene Jordahl has seen 118.1 innings for the Lakers, with 89 strikeouts, and a 7.57 ERA.
The winners of the NJCAA Regions XI-A and XI-B Tournaments will play the winners of the NJCAA North Plains A and B Districts with the winners competing at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina from May 20-25.
