Sullwold Commits to Northern State University

Iowa Lakes Softball player, Julia Sullwold, has signed to continue her athletic and academic careers at Division II Northern University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Julia had this to say about why she chose Northern State University, "I am excited to continue my collegiate softball and academic careers at Northern State University for Coach Fuller. Falling in love with the campus, coaches, professors, and players made my decision a lot easier. I am excited to see the impact I will bring to Northern State."

Julia graduated from Totino-Grace High School, where she was a 4-year starting shortstop for the Eagles. In her career, she batted .330 with a .950 fielding percentage.  She was voted the Defensive MVP both her sophomore and junior year and was voted by her team to be captain her senior year. Julia was also named to the All-Conference team her sophomore year and Honorable Mention All-Conference her Junior year.

In Julia's freshman season at Iowa Lakes, she played in 50 games. In the leadoff position, she batted .404 with an on-base percentage of .451. Julia had 72 hits, including 9 doubles and 1 triple. Julia swiped 31 bases last year, scored 55 times, and threw 8 people out from left field. For her efforts on the field, Julia was awarded All-Region 2nd Team. She was also awarded Academic All-Region 2nd Team for her hard work off the field.

"I am so excited that Julia decided to continue at Northern State," said Larson. "Julia is a prime example of why Junior College works. Growing up in Minnesota, it was always Julia's dream to play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. She came here and worked every day in the classroom, on the field, and in the weight room so that she could accomplish that dream. We were blessed to have a kid like Julia for the last two years. She is the epitome of Iowa Lakes Softball and she has definitely left her mark. I am so proud of Julia for everything that she has accomplished as a Laker and cannot wait to watch her continue to excel at Northern."

Julia had this in closing, "I am glad I was able to be a part of the Iowa Lakes program. I have made many friendships with great people. I am going to miss my coaches, friends, and teammates. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during my career at Iowa Lakes."
