San Pedro Chosen as NFCA Preseason All-American

Fastpitch News, a publication dedicated to covering fastpitch softball, has named Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Leilani San Pedro, to its 2018 National Junior College Athlete Association Division II Preseason All-American First Team.  

San Pedro is the daughter of James San Pedro and Samantha Gutierrez from Redlands, California. A sophomore outfielder, San Pedro was one of two Iowa community college players named to the first team, joining Molly Jacobson from Des Moines Area Community College. 

During the 2017 season, San Pedro played in 40 games for the Lakers. She posted a .500 batting average, which tied the freshman batting average record at Iowa Lakes Community College. She had 84 hits, including 21 doubles, 2 triples, and 11 homeruns. She batted in 53 runs, while crossing the plate 69 times herself. San Pedro had an on-base percentage of .543 and a slugging percentage of .845. For her efforts this past year, Leilani was named to the All-Region 2nd Team. 

San Pedro and the Lakers will open the season at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska on Friday, March 2nd
