San Pedro Signs with Southeastern University

Iowa Lakes Softball player, Leilani San Pedro, signed to continue her athletic and academic careers at NAIA Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. San Pedro will be studying Psychology in the hopes of becoming a Child Psychologist in the future.

"Leilani will be greatly missed here at Iowa Lakes next year. On the field, she is an amazing athlete with a go getter mentality. She steps into the box with the confidence of a winner and covers ground in the outfield. Off the field, the growth this young lady has made is inspiring. She has become a leader, mentor, and role-model. She is truly the epitome of a Laker softball player. We wish her the best of luck at Southeastern and cannot wait to watch her continue to grow!"

San Pedro graduated from Redlands East Valley High School in Redlands, California. She was a three-year outfield starter for the Wildcats. In her senior year, Leilani posted a .432 batting average with a .482 on-base percentage. She had 32 hits, 19 runs batted in, and 19 runs scored. She was named to the 2nd All-League Team both her sophomore and junior years.

During her first year as a Laker, San Pedro played in 50 games for the Lakers. She posted a .500 batting average, which tied the freshman batting average record at Iowa Lakes Community College. She had 84 hits, including; 21 doubles, 2 triples, and 11 homeruns. She batted in 53 runs, while crossing the plate 59 times herself. Leilani had an on-base percentage of .543 and a slugging percentage of .845. For her efforts last  year, Leilani was awarded All-Region 2nd Team and ICCAC Player of the Week once during the season.

Thus far this year, San Pedro is batting .351 in 29 games. She has 33 hits, including 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 9 homeruns. She has batted in 44 runs, while crossing the plate 34 times herself. She has been named ICCAC Player of the Week once this season and was chosen as a Pre-Season NFCA 1st Team All-American.

Leilani had this to say, "Iowa Lakes has changed my life for the better! Without this place, I would not be in the position to choose a place like Southeastern. I chose Southeastern because I know I will be able to grow in my faith and as a softball player. I cannot wait to see where this adventure takes me!"
