#20 Lakers Sail Over Hawks

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team won two games today over Northeast Community College. The Lakers won game one 9-1 in five innings and then won game two 12-5. The Lakers are now 17-7 overall and 2-4 in conference.

GAME 1: 9 (ILCC), 1 (NCC) 5 innings

Iowa Lakes were able to jump out to an early lead and never looked back. Alyssa Thorson led off the game with a walk. She then stole second, before Bryn Bohmann reached on a Hawks error. MacKenna Jones followed with a walk of her own to load up the bases. Paige Grafton continued her clutch hitting with a double to score two runs. Jones was able to put Northeast down in order, getting two strikeouts and a fly out to Brielle Bartelt.

The Lakers continued to put runs on the board when Macy Alderson led off the second inning with a single. Alderson stole second and then scampered across the plate on a Kiaya Dunbar double. Bohmann drew a one out walk and then Grafton scored all runners with a homerun. With the Lakers up 6-0, Jones struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning.

Northeast was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun.

The Lakers were held scoreless until they scored three in the top of the fifth. Alderson and Dunbar each walked, before they stole a base to put runners in scoring position. Thorson then blasted a three run homerun to complete the 9-1 victory in five innings.

MacKenna Jones (9-2) picked up the win in the circle. She allowed one earned run on one hit and ten strikeouts. Paige Grafton was 2-3 with a walk and four runs batted in. Macy Alderson was a perfect 2-2 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

GAME 2: 12 (ILCC), 5 (NCC)

Northeast got on the board first in game two when they led off the bottom of the second with a walk. They followed this with a walk and sacrifice bunt to put runners in scoring position. The Hawks leadoff batter then hit a sacrifice fly to get the first run of the game. Baylee O'Donnell was able to get the final out of inning on a flyout to Thorson.

Grafton got the first Laker run of the game on a solo homerun in the top of the fourth. The Hawks were able to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning on a solo homerun.

Iowa Lakes was finally able to get their offense going in the top of the sixth. Thorson led off with a single and then stole second. A Northeast error on a Bohmann bunt put runners on the corners. Jones then doubled to right center to score Thorson. Bartelt entered the game at second base to run for Jones. Grafton hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Bohmann and advance Bartelt to third. Bartelt then came across to score on an Abby Zahn single up the middle and then advanced to second on the throw. Olivia Funk then entered the game and singled up the middle to put the Lakers up 5-2. Northeast was able to bring the score back to within two on a solo homerun.

The Lakers put the game out of reach when they scored seven runs in the top of the seventh. Thorson led off with a homerun to get the momentum going. Bohmann followed with a single. She then stole second and scored on a Grafton double. Grafton got out on a fielder's choice from Zahn for the second out of the inning. Zahn then advanced to second on a Karisa Hernandez single before both runners scored on a Northeast error off the bat of Funk. With the Lakers up 9-3, Alderson singled up the middle to score Funk. Dunbar followed with a two run homerun for the final two Lakers runs. Northeast was able to score two in the bottom of the inning on a walk and homerun.

Jayda Staige picked up her first win of the season. She pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out three. Baylee O'Donnell pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks, while striking out two. Paige Grafton again led the Lakers, going 2-3 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Kiaya Dunbar was 2-4 with a homerun and two runs batted in. Alyssa Thorson, Karisa Hernandez, and Macy Alderson each had two hits in the game.

The Lakers will take on Northeast again tomorrow in a double header. The game times are 12:00 and 2:00 PM
