McIlravy Leads Lakers to 2nd Place at RCTC Invite at The Jewel

The Laker men's golf team took to the links at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, MN on Tuesday for the RCTC Invitational. After posting a season opening 318 on their home course the previous week, Coach Weber was looking for his players to bounce back and show some improvement.

"We have a young team, all freshman, and it can take some time to get acclimated to the college lifestyle. I think the guys are doing a very good job at showing up to work each day and getting better and today it showed with the team dropping 10 shots from last week on a difficult golf course here at The Jewel."

Iowa Lakes took second place with a team score of 308, getting narrowly edged out by Minnesota State-Fergus Falls by one stroke who posted a 307. The Lakers were led by Sterling McIlravy who posted an even par 71 to take overall medalist honors for the tournament.

"Sterling came to play today and I was very proud of his bounce back from last week. He was quite disappointed with his first tournament score and was determined to play better and the amount of focus and steady play that he brought to the course was the biggest difference from our Iowa Lakes Invite. He has a lot of talent to work with and when he matches that with more experience, he will a bring a lot to the table and will be very fun to watch. It was great to see him grow a little bit today and I was happy for him to get his first tournament win."

The Lakers rounded out the team score with Aaron James carding a 76, Carlton Rahn with a 77, and Jaden Kallhoff an 84. Non counting score was Connor Pirtle with a 92 while Morgan Edwards who played as individual posted a 79.

"The guys came today and showed improvement and a better tournament mindset which is what this young group is going to need, and I expect nothing less than each day. They played well today and I hope they use it moving forward and continue to improve. I know what their potential can be and it is only a matter of time until they reach it."

The Iowa Lakes men's and women's golf teams continues their fall golf season this Friday at the Iowa Central Invitational in Fort Dodge at the Fort Dodge Country Club with a 10:00AM shotgun.
