Tough Conditions Lead to Slow Start for Lakers

Lakers Off to Slow Start at the Blue River Classic

Course conditions can mean everything to a golfer, and Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln, Nebraska got the best of the Laker men's golf team on Tuesday. The Lakers fired their highest team total of the season with a 330, which put them in 11th place in a 17 team field.

"Today was a tough day for any golfer. Wilderness Ridge is a formidable golf course given good conditions, but today was especially tough. With wind speeds at a constant 20-30 MPH, any course would be tougher than usual," said Coach Weber. "Add in the fact that the green had just been aerified and had not yet fully healed so they were extremely bumpy, it was not going to be easy for anybody and all of the scores for the tournament showed."

Aaron James led the Lakers with a ten over par 81, followed by Sterling McIlravy with an 82, Carlton Rahn with an 83, and Morgan Edwards and Jaden Kallhoff each with an 84 for a team score of 330. Non counting scores were Connor Pirtle with an 87 and Josh Petrich with a 98.

Coach Weber had this to add about the day; "Hopefully the guys can take this round and move on from it. It was not your typical round, but you can always learn something from any day and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back tomorrow when we go play the Highland Golf Club where course conditions should not be as big a factor."

The Lakers will tee off with a shotgun start at 10:00 at the Highland Golf Club for the second round of the Blue River Classic.
