The Laker men's golf team began their spring season by posting a team score of 324, putting them in fourth place out of six teams, nine shots out of third, at the Southeast Community College Spring Invitational. Leading the pace for Iowa Lakes was Sterling McIlravy who posted a solid opening round of three over par 75 in cold, tough conditions, putting him in 7th place overall individually.

 

"Today was all about getting back into the rhythm of competitive golf and getting to be outside again" said Coach Weber. "Usually we will get at least a week, if not two, of good practice outside at Brooks before we get thrown into the season. Unfortunately with the weather deciding to not cooperate this spring, we have not had the chance to get outside so today was definitely a step in the right direction towards our goal of playing in Alabama in May."

 

Other scores for the Lakers were Carlton Rahn with an 81, Morgan Edwards an 83, Cameron Maxwell with an 85, and Aaron James with an 89.

 

"The guys have been putting in a lot of work in the off-season and it is only a matter of time until we begin to see results in the win column. From my point of view I saw a lot of good things that the guys can use going forward, and for that I am proud of the way they played today. This spring will test their patience and determination which will help them all out in the long run. All in all it was a good day to get outside and play golf again, and we look forward to competing tomorrow and getting better."

 

The Lakers will tee it up tomorrow at the Beatrice Country Club in Beatrice, Nebraska at 10:30AM for round two of the Southeast Community College Spring Invitational.
