The Iowa Lakes men's golf team finished up their spring opener in Beatrice, Nebraska with a fourth place finish at the Southeaster Community College Spring Invitational at the Beatrice Country Club. The Lakers finished the tournament with a team total of 654 by posting a 330 on the second day to follow up a 324 from the first round. The Lakers were led by freshman Sterling McIlravy who finished with a 158 with a second day round of 83, giving him a T-11 finish.

"Today was not exactly what we had envisioned when we set out this morning, but we have a lot of positives to look back on to set a solid foundation for the rest of the spring. It was great getting a taste of competition again and hopefully this will make the guys hungry to work hard and put in the time we need to achieve are goals for the season" said Coach Weber when asked about the spring opener. "We have a great group of guys with good leadership and all the pieces we need to make a run this season to get us to nationals. I am really looking forward to seeing what this group can do." 

 

The Lakers were rounded out in the second round with Carlton Rahn posting an 81, Morgan Edwards an 81, Cameron Maxwell with an 85, and Aaron James with an 89.

 

"The guys have a lot of room for improvement but we can't measure the entire season by our first outing. They have put in a lot of work this off-season and it will start to show as we get into more of a rhythm. We will take this tournament as a bit of a wake up call and use it to fuel us moving forward. They know that they can score much lower than today and I have no doubt that they will work extremely hard to get better every day."

 

The Laker men and women will be back in action down at Otter Creek in Ankeny, Iowa for a duel match with DMACC on Wednesday, April 4th.
