Lakers Open Season at Morningside Invitational

The Iowa Lakes Men's Golf Team opened their 2018-19 campaign at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa on Tuesday for the Morningside Fall Inivtational. The Lakers carded a team total of 321 in tough, windy conditions which was good enough to put the team in a tie for seventh place out of seventeen teams. Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore returner Carlton Rahn with a four over 76 which put him a tie for 7th out of a 90 man field. The Lakers were also able to send a JV squad which carded a total of 340 which put them in a twelfth place finish.

"Today was all about getting these guys a chance to show what they have at the beginning of the season" said Coach Weber when asked how he felt about his teams' performances. "I was very pleased overall with the scores, especially from Carl and Joey. We have a lot of guys this year and it will be a bit of a dog fight to see who can come out on top for our roster spots. We will have a lot of inter team competition which will push each of these guys forward, and I am really excited to see where this team can go. We have great sophomore leaders and a lot of hungry freshman, so it should be a great year!"

Rounding out the other scores for the varsity were Joey Murphy with a 77, Trace Jacobson with an 83, Addison Bahr with an 85, and Luke Sladek with a 91. Simon Broadwater led the JV roster with an 83, while Cam Maxwell posted an 84, Nolan King an 86, Jordon Werner an 87, and Matt Randall with an 89.

The Lakers will look to hit the links on September 8th and 9th down in Marion, Iowa at the Klocke Family Classic hosted by Mt. Mercy University at Hunter's Ridge Golf Course with a noon shotgun on day one.
