Laker Men Take 4th at Bent Tree Intercollegiate
The Iowa Lakes men's golf team fought through wet and cold conditions for three rounds and over two days to finish in 4th place at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate hosted by Iowa Western Community College at Bent Tree Golf Club in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Lakers finished with a team score of 939 (+75), 64 strokes behind team champion Iowa Western with a score of 875.
Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore captain Carlton Rahn with a three round total of 229 (+13), which was good enough for a T-14 finish.
"I think Carlton did a great job bouncing back from a very slow start. The first round was very cold and we had to push the start time back just to let the maintenance crew get the course ready, so the normal flow of the tournament was thrown off a bit." said Coach Weber when asked about Carlton's performance. "He did not adjust right out of the gate, but he did find a bit of rhythm towards the middle of his round and kept his head down to post some respectable scores."
After Carlton, three Lakers finished 21st, 22nd, and 23rd for the tournament, all split by only three shots. Nick Revering posted 235 (+19), Trace Jacobson 237 (+21), and Joey Murphy 238 (+22). Aaron James was not too far behind in posting 247 (+31).
"We had a very balanced team effort this week, it was just a little bit higher than we were hoping for in terms of scores. The guys came out a bit lethargic for that first round and it ended up costing us in the long run. Everybody did a great job in putting it behind them and coming out and posting a great final round score of 303 and moving up the leaderboard. We need to do a better job of how we approach these tournaments, and it is definitely something we will be discussing this off-season as we get ready for the spring."
The Laker men will be back in action at the Buena Vista Shootout which is a match play format at the Spencer Golf Club in Spencer, Iowa on October 7th and 8th.
