The Iowa Lakes men's golf team claimed their first team victory of the spring season at Emerald Hills Golf Club in Arnolds Park, Iowa via a fifth score playoff over Des Moines Area Community College after both teams posted tournament low 300. Carlton Rahn's fifth score of 79 edged out DMACC's fifth score of 81.

"The guys finally cracked through into the winner's circle after playing some pretty solid golf this spring", said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "We have been playing really well but just haven't quite gotten over that hump, but today they got to taste of a win and they did it in a true team way, which I could not be happier with."

Leading the way for Iowa Lakes was sophomore Aaron James who posted a one over par 73, which was one shot off of NIACC's Ben Boerjan's tournament low of 72. Morgan Edwards was two shots behind his teammate with a 75. Cameron Maxwell and Trace Jacobson both posted 76, and Carlton Rahn came in with a 79 to round out the team scores.

"The boys have been playing some very good golf this spring, but I think this is exactly what they needed to give them that last little push of momentum towards the regional tournament. Going out and beating a very talented DMACC team, even by a scorecard playoff, is going to be huge for their confidence and swagger as we get ready for Veenker," added Coach Weber.

Being a home tournament, the Lakers were able to field two teams. Addison Bahr posted an 80, Joey Murphy an 82, Luke Sladek 84, and Nolan King an 88 to make a second team score of 334.

The Lakers will look to keep up their momentum as they hit the final stretch of the 2018-19 season. Next on the schedule is the Region XI Tournament at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, Iowa on May 5th and 6th with a national championship bid at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Indiana up for grabs.
