Lakers Finish 6th at National Preview

The Iowa Lakes men's golf team took part in the NJCAA National Preview this past week at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Missouri. The National Preview consisted of ten junior college teams from all over the country that made their way to Joplin, and competed over the course of two days and three eighteen hole rounds. The Lakers would finish in 6th place after three rounds of 308, 328, and 313. Leading the way for Iowa Lakes was sophomore Trace Jacobson with three very consistent rounds of 76, 75, and 75, which was good enough for a fourth place finish individually in the 51 person field.

"Twin Hills (Golf and Country Club) is a very narrow, long golf course, and it really does bring out the best players. The course saw a lot of rain the two days prior, so the 6900 yard track played even longer which is what I believe led to the higher than normal scores," said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "Trace did an incredible job staying level headed and patient, which is what we stress every single day, and it showed with his scores."

Other scores for the Lakers were James Preston with rounds of 74, 80, 78 which was good enough for a T-11th finish, Conal Downing with rounds of 75, 84, 77 (T-19th), Addison Bahr with rounds of 83, 89, 83 (T-36th), and Dawson Weber with rounds of 85, 89, and 92 (45th).

"This was a great experience for the guys. We have played some fairly simple golf courses this fall and this really showed our players what they need to focus on in order to get to the level that we want to be at. Hopefully we can make the necessary adjustments and fight our way back down to Twin Hills in May at the regional tournament."

The Lakers will look to finish off their season on a high note with the Region XI Fall Preview at Blue Top Ridge Golf Club in Riverside, Iowa on October 14th.
