Four Iowa Lakes Softball Players Named to All-Region Teams

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team had four student-athletes that were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Softball All-Region teams.

Lexi Chase, pitcher, and Eliya Johnson, infield, were both named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team. Kamryn Buntrock, infield, and Kailey Maksim, infield, were both selected for the ICCAC Honorable Mention team.

In the circle, Chase, a freshman, appeared in 34 of 47 games in the circle and had an overall record of 17-10, including a 7-3 record against NJCAA Division I schools. She was top ten in the ICCAC for innings pitched (167.0), wins (17), saves (2), appearances (34), and strikeouts (160). In addition to her stellar play in the circle, Chase also dominated in the batter's box. She finished the year with a .459 batting average (sixth in the conference), a .503 on-base percentage, and a .727 slugging percentage. She compiled 73 hits, including 22 doubles (third in the conference), one triple, and six homeruns. Very impressively, Chase struck out just nine times on the season and had a 22-game hitting streak. Because of her strong play all year, Chase was awarded ICCAC Player of the Week one time, ICCAC Pitcher of the Week two times, and NJCAA Player of the Week one time.

Johnson, a freshman, finished the year with a .423 batting average, a .470 on-base percentage, and a .691 slugging percentage. She had 63 hits, including fourteen doubles, one triple, and eight homeruns. She drove in 40 of her teammates while crossing the plate 31 times herself. Johnson finished the year with a .935 fielding percentage.

Buntrock, a sophomore, played in all 47 games for the Lakers this year at first base. She compiled a .256 batting average this season, with a .329 on-base percentage, and a .419 slugging percentage. She had 33 hits, including 10 doubles, one triple, and three homeruns. Buntrock finished the season with a .964 fielding percentage.

Maksim, a sophomore, posted a .333 batting average in the 47 games for the Lakers. She had a .427 on-base percentage and a .735 (highest on the team) slugging percentage. She racked up 45 hits, including 8 doubles and 17 homeruns (seventh in the conference). Maksim scored 45 times while driving in 38 runs. She finished with a .931 fielding percentage. Maksim will also find herself in the Iowa Lakes record book for career homeruns.

"These four young ladies are very deserving of these awards. Their passion for the game and desire to get better showed every day at practices and games. Their hard work and the work of their teammates around them made this possible. The conference is filled with strong players and to be named as one of the elites is a tremendous honor for them." Commented Coach King.

The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 24-22 and a 22-18 record in the conference.
