Laker Softball Drops Two to #7 DMACC

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team suffered two losses at the hands of #7 DMACC with final scores of 8-0 and 24-2. The two losses put the Lakers at 20-11 overall on the season.

GAME 1: 0 (ILCC), 8 (DMACC) 6 innings 

            Game one started as a pitcher's duel, as there was no action on the bases until the third inning. Karlee Akers stepped up in the top of the third with a first-pitch leadoff single. The next three Lakers would be shut down, stranding Akers on first. The Bears came out hard in the bottom of the third, starting with a single. The runner would be gunned down on an attempted steal at second by Abby Burgess. DMACC scored the first run of the game on two singles. 

            The Lakers continued to fight hard in the fourth, with Marrissa Miller reaching first on a Bear's error. The next three would be shut down again. Macy Pickett pitched her way out of a sticky situation in the bottom of the fourth, allowing no runs with the bases loaded. 

            Brooklyn Bode would fight for a two-out single in the top of the fifth but was left on first. The Bears broke open the game in their half of the inning, scoring three runs on two singles, a walk, and two doubles. 

            Kaitlyn DuChateau led off the top of the sixth with a single to left field, but that would be the last effort from the Laker offense. DMACC's bats were hot in the bottom of the sixth, scoring the final four runs on a triple, two fielder's choices, two singles, and a Laker error. 

            The Bear's twelve hits to the Lakers' three hits propelled them to the 6-inning win. Pickett took the loss for the Lakers, throwing 5.0 innings. Allowing 12 hits, eight runs, five earned runs, and two walks while striking out two. The Lakers tallied three hits in the game, one each from Bode, Akers, and DuChateau. 

 

GAME 2: 2 (LLCC), 24 (DMACC)   

            The Lakers were unable to fight their way through the Bear's pitching, going three up, three down in the top of the first. DMACC came out strong in their half, scoring 11 runs on 12 hits and a walk. 

            Taylor Larson stepped up to the plate to lead off the second inning for the Lakers with an infield single. Alexis Cullinane came up with a one-out single of her own to put to runners on. Bode would take a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with two outs, but they were unable to break through. The Bears scored one run in their half with a solo home run, extending their lead to 12-0. 

            Marrissa Miller led the Laker offense in the third with a bunt-for-a-hit to reach first. There would be no further action for the Lakers in their half of the inning. DMACC kept their offense rolling, scoring eight runs on seven hits, one walk, and a fielder's choice.

            The Lakers didn't quit, leading off the fourth inning with a walk from Pickett. An error by the Bears allowed Cullinane to reach first and Pickett to reach second. Abby Burgess picked up two RBIs with a two-out single to cut down the deficit. DuChateau picked up her second single of the day with a ground ball through the middle of the field. The fight from the Lakers would end there as DMACC picked up their last runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth. 

            Kassidy Elkins took the loss on the game, throwing 0.1 innings, allowing eight hits, nine runs, and one walk. Larson also threw in game two, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing ten hits, nine runs, and one walk. Morgan Fine threw in her first game for the Lakers. She threw 1.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Abby Burgess led the Lakers' offense, going 1-2 in the game with two RBIs. DuChateau, Miller, Larson, and Cullinane all added hits of their own. 

            The Lakers look for redemption as they travel to Waterloo, IA to face Hawkeye Community College tomorrow. The games are scheduled for 12 & 2 pm.
