Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team saw five of their athletes cross the stage to receive their diploma this past Friday afternoon. They also saw one of their own, Emma Kral, get up on stage and provide the commencement speech for the ceremony. Outfielder, Emma Kral, was selected by the school to speak at the ceremony.
Although Emma has only been with the program for one year, she has left her mark. She compiled a .200 batting average and 1.000 fielding percentage. She also helped her team to the regional championship game, where they lost 4-3 in ten innings to #3 in the nation Des Moines Area Community College. In addition, Kral was selected to the ICCAC All-Academic First Team.
Kral has also been very influential in the Iowa Lakes and Estherville communities. At Iowa Lakes, she was selected to the All-Iowa Academic Team and was a presidential scholar, student senator, member of the criminal justice club, and a member of both handbells and jazz band. Through her student senate position, Kral had the opportunity to organize numerous community service projects. Some of these included a canned food and toy drive for Upper Des Moines, can drive for the Emmet County Animal Shelter, and adopting a highway between Estherville and Emmetsburg.
"Emma was the ideal choice to speak to her peers Friday afternoon because she is an example of the many different ways success can be achieved at Iowa Lakes Community College. I have been honored to witness her leadership skills as her coach and student senate advisor and enjoyed hearing from faculty and staff about her positive presence on campus through clubs, band, and in the classroom. I am confident Emma will be an ambassador of Iowa Lakes as she continues her education at St. Mary's University and throughout her life. We have been fortunate to have her as part of our history as a softball program and as part of our institution. She will be greatly missed at Iowa Lakes next year," commented Coach King.
