Lakers Drop Two

Lakers Drop Two

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team dropped two games against Division 1 Iowa Western Community College. Yasmine Nix pitched a good game, but the offense could not help her out in the 3-0 game one loss. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the 13-0 loss in game two

Iowa Western struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run on two hits. They scored their final two runs of the game in the fourth inning on two hits and one Laker error.

Yasmine Nix pitched the game, allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits and striking out two. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht, Gabby Heckard, and Lexus Gorospe each picked up a hit for the Lakers.

The Lakers quickly loaded the bases in game two, when they mounted a two out rally. Kacie Salazar and Yasmine Nix had back to back singles, before Gabby Heckard drew a walk. The Reivers made a great play when Gorospe drove a ball in the hole that was caught to end the threat.

Iowa Western took a quick lead, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first on two hits, three walks, and one hit by pitch. They again scored five runs in the bottom of the second on six hits and one hit by pitch. In the bottom of the third, the Reivers scored another two runs on three hits and their final run came in the bottom of the fourth on two hits and one walk.

Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss, allowing five earned runs on two hits, three walks, and one hit by pitch. Isabelle Karr allowed five earned runs on six hits and one hit by pitch. Naomi Tolmachoff allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk and Brooklyn Mickelson allowed no runs on one hit. Yasmine Nix led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-2.

The Lakers will start conference play this weekend, as they host Ellsworth Community College on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00 PM and North Iowa Area Community College on Sunday at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
