#9 Iowa Central Takes Two

Iowa Lakes Community College softball dropped two against #9 Iowa Central Community College. The Lakers dropped game one 5-4 and game two 8-2.

Game One: ICCC (5)-ILCC (4)

The Lakers and Tritons found themselves in a good old fashioned pitcher's duel until the top of the fifth inning. Iowa Central started off the inning reaching on a Laker error. That was followed by a single to put runners at first and second. Yasmine Nix got the next two batters to strike out and ground out before giving up a double to put the Tritons up 2-0. That was followed by a single and homerun to make the score 5-0.

Iowa Lakes mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff single by Madisyn Arechederra. Taylor Allen singled before Yasmine Nix drove across the first Laker run on a single down the third base line. Kacie Salazar drove the first ball she saw over the left field fence to bring the Lakers within one.

Neither team scored and the Tritons took game one 5-4.

Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed five runs, zero earned, on seven hits and striking out four. Isabelle Karr allowed zero earned runs on three hits and two walks. Kacie Salazar was 1-3 with a homerun and three runs batted in.

Game Two: ICCC (8)-ILCC (2)

Game two started very similar to game one. The Tritons got on the board in the top of the fourth. They scored five runs on five singles and one homerun.

The Lakers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Autumn Phelps doubled to right center, before advancing to third on an Iowa Central error off the bat of Priscilla Lozoya. With two outs, Lexus Gorospe laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. Taylor Allen hit a hard ground ball down the third baseline  to score Phelps and Lozoya.

Iowa Central put up three more runs in the top of the seventh on two hits, one walk, and two errors.

Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed four earned runs on four hits. Lexus Gorospe allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits and one walk, while striking out two. Priscilla Lozoya was 1-2 with one run scored and one stolen base.
