Lakers Drop Two to DMACC

Iowa Lakes was handed two losses yesterday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against Des Moines Area Community College. Despite Caitlyn Clayton's sixth inning homerun, the Lakers dropped game one 4-2. DMACC took a quick lead in the second game, beating the Lakers 16-1 in five innings. Lakers fall to 14-10 overall and 5-5 in the ICCAC.

Game One: DMACC 4, ILCC 2

Caitlyn Clayton hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth with two outs to give Iowa Lakes a shot to win the game, but the bears held on to win game one 4-2.

Iowa Lakes committed an error to start the third inning that eventually came around to score the first run of the game. The bears scored their second and third runs of the game in the top of the fourth on a walk, two hits, and one Laker error. DMACC scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lakers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth after a Baylee Bechen single. Bechen then stole second and scored on the Clayton homerun.

Kelly Drake took the loss for the Lakers. Drake pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out five. Clayton was 1-3 with a homerun and two runs batted in and Bechen was 2-4 with a stolen base to lead the Lakers offensively.

Game Two: DMACC 16, ILCC 1

Des Moines Area Community College jumped out to an early lead and Iowa Lakes was held to just two hits in the 16-1 loss. Caitlyn Clayton hit her sixth homerun of the season for the Lakers' only run of the game.

DMACC scored sixteen runs on sixteen hits. Courtney Calkins took the loss for the Lakers. Caitlyn Clayton and Kelly Drake got the lone hits for the Lakers.

The Lakers will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska on Wednesday to take on Northeast Community College. Game times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
