Trojans Bats Too Much for Lakers

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team dropped two games to North Iowa Area Community College today. The Lakers fought hard in game one, losing 7-3. They then dropped game two 12-4. The Lakers are now 13-25 overall and 4-14 in conference.

GAME 1: 7 (NIACC), 3 (ILCC)

Since the game was originally scheduled at NIACC, the Lakers were the visitors on the scoreboard and had the first opportunity to score. Abby Burgess led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout from Myla Murphy. She then scored on a single up the middle off the bat of Taylor Larson. The Trojans tied things up in the bottom of the first with a leadoff homerun.

NIACC scored another run in the second when their leadoff batter reached on an error. She was then forced out at second on a fielder's choice from Larson to Alayna Leighton. The runner at first then stole second and advanced to third on a groundout to Leighton. The Trojans took the lead on a passed ball, allowing the runner to score.

Murphy got herself to first base when she was hit by a pitch. She advanced to second on a two out single from Macy Alderson. Ally Davis then stepped in and singled before Murphy scored on the overthrow. The Trojans again took the lead with one run in the third on one Laker error and two singles. NIACC added to their lead in the fifth on a single, sacrifice fly, and homerun.

With the score 5-2 entering the sixth, Avery Somers hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to two. NIACC responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on a walk, single, and two groundouts.

Avery Somers led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-3 with a homerun. Taylor Larson, Macy Alderson, and Ally Davis each added a hit in the game. Jolene Jordahl suffered the loss, throwing the entire game and allowing seven runs, four earned. She gave up five hits and walked one batter, while striking out five.

GAME 2: 12 (NIACC), 4 (ILCC)

Burgess again led off the game with a walk and then stole second. Larson followed with a walk of her own. Both runners advanced sixty feet on a ball in the dirt. This allowed Katelyn Hamm to hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Burgess and giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

NIACC scored two in the bottom of the first on a walk and homerun. The Trojans added three runs in the second on one walk and two homeruns. The score was 6-1 after the third, when NIACC scored a run on a walk and single. They extended their lead to seven with two solo homeruns in the fourth.

The Lakers were not going to go down without a fight, as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth. Brooklyn Bode reached on a walk and came around to score on a Burgess homerun. Murphy followed the homerun with a walk and came around to score on a single and Trojan error. NIACC scored four in the bottom of the fifth on five singles and a homerun.

Ally Davis was 2-3 at the plate, while Abby Burgess, Katelyn Hamm, and Avery Somers added a hit. Taylor Larson took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing eight earned runs on seven hits, four walks, and one hit by pitch, while striking out two. Tatiyana Schack pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk.

Iowa Lakes will be on the road this weekend, opening up at Des Moines Area Community College on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 and 3:00 PM. They will then travel to Hawkeye Community College on Sunday, April 21st, with games at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
