Laker Softball Splits with NIACC

The Lakers left nine runners in scoring position stranded in their 1-0 twelve inning loss to North Iowa Area Community College. The Lakers then bounced back with eleven hits in five innings to beat NIACC 9-1. They are now 20-12 overall and 11-7 in conference.

Game One: ILCC 0, NIACC 1

After three hours of scoreless softball, the NIACC Trojans  pushed across a run in the bottom of the twelfth inning to beat Iowa Lakes 1-0.

The Lakers had a runner in scoring position in eight of the twelve innings, but failed to come up with a timely hit to push a run across. The Trojans scored their run in the bottom of the twelfth after a leadoff single. She then stole second and advanced to third on a ground ball to the shortstop. She finally scored on an infield hit to the shortstop.

The Lakers were led offensively by Brittany Evans who was 4-6 with two stolen bases. Kelly Drake took the loss for the Lakers. She pitcher all twelve innings, allowing nine hits and striking out four.

Game Two: ILCC 9, NIACC 1

Shelby Davis led the Lakers to a 9-1 victory in game two, going 3-3 with two doubles and six runs batted in.

The Lakers jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the top of the first. Brittany Evans and Baylee Bechen each singled, before Lauren Hein loaded the bases with a walk. Shelby Davis then blasted a ball to the right center gap to score two. Hein and Davis then scored using some aggressive base running on a Courtney Calkins out. The Lakers scored three more in the third, before tacking on two in the top of the firth.

Courtney Calkins picked up the win for the Lakers allowing one earned run on five hits. Baylee Bechen also had three hits and a stolen base in the game.

The Lakers will play at home on April 14th at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Dakota County Technical College.
