A strong start in game one propelled the Lakers to a 9-0 victory over DCTC. Iowa Lakes was then resilient in game two, needing six innings to pull ahead and beat the Blue Knights 11-7. The Lakers are now 22-12 overall and 11-7 in conference.

Game One: ILCC 9, DCTC 0

Iowa Lakes pulled ahead 6-0 in the first inning and never looked back in their 9-0 victory over Dakota County Technical College Thursday.

Kelly Drake tossed a complete game in the win, allowing six hits and zero runs. Brittany Evans led the Lakers going 2-3 with one run batted in, one run scored, and one stolen base. Lauren Hein and Caitlyn Clayton also went 2-3.

ILCC struck first in game one as Hein's RBI single scored Brittany Evans. The Lakers went on to score five more runs in the first inning. They were then held scoreless until the fourth inning, when  Baylee Bechen scored on a Hein double. Hein was then brought home on a Caitlyn Clayton single to give the Lakers the 9-0 victory.

Game Two: ILCC 11, DCTC 7

It took ILCC five innings to put a run on the board in game two, but then went on to win 11-7.

DCTC took advantage of four Laker errors to build a 5-0 lead. The Lakers showed their toughness as they rallied together eleven runs in two innings. Kelly Drake got the rally going when she stepped up with a double. Shawn Kauwalu followed with a double of her own, before Blaney Markman stepped up and hit a two run homerun to make the score 5-3.

The sixth inning started with the Blue Knights getting two runs back to make the score 7-3. ILCC then put up eight runs on six hits to complete the come from behind 11-7 victory.

Courtney Calkins picked up the win for the Lakers allowing three earned runs on nine hits. Markman was 2-3 with a homerun, three runs batted in, and two runs scored.

The Lakers will play at home Saturday, April 16th, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against Kirkwood Community College.
