The Kirkwood Eagles were too much for the Lakers to handle yesterday in their double header. The Lakers dropped game one 7-0 and game two 13-2. ILCC is now 22-14 overall and 11-9 in conference.

Game One: ILCC 0, KCC 7

The Lakers could only muster together three hits in their game one 7-0 loss to Kirkwood Community College.

The Eagles struck in the second inning with a leadoff homerun. The next girl walked and was brought home on a series of singles. The score remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when the Eagles put another run up on the board to make it 3-0. Kirkwood then put up four runs in the top of the seventh to complete the 7-0 win.

Kelly Drake (9-6) took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed six earned runs on nine hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts. Offensively, Shelby Davis was 2-3. Courtney Calkins also had a hit in the game.

Game Two: ILCC 2, KCC 13

ILCC was tied 2-2 going into the top of the sixth before Kirkwood CC exploded for eleven runs in two innings to complete the sweep 13-2.

Kirkwood got their first runs of the game in the top of the third on a two out two run homerun. The Lakers got one run back in the bottom of the fourth. Shelby Davis got a one out single, followed by a Courtney Calkins double. Kelly Drake then laced a single to center to score Davis. Megan Remund followed with an infield hit to load the bases but Kirkwood got the next two batters to line out and ground out to end the threat.

Baylee Bechen led the fifth inning off with a single and then stole second base. Caitlyn Clayton singled to right to advance Bechen to third. Davis then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Bechen. A double off the right center gap by Calkins put runners on second and third with two outs, but the Eagles got Drake to fly out to the shortstop to again end the Laker threat.

Kirkwood then strung together nine hits in two innings to score eleven runs to win the game 13-2.

Courtney Calkins (7-4) took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed nine earned runs on twelve hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Calkins led the Lakers offensively, going 3-3 with two doubles and a walk. Brittany Evans, Caitlyn Clayton, and Kelly Drake each had two hits in the game.

The Lakers will travel to Boone tomorrow, April 17th, to take on the seventh ranked DMACC Bears at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
