DMACC Sweeps ILCC Softball

Caitlyn Clayton went 4-5 at the plate, but ILCC drops both games to Des Moines Area Community College. The Lakers are now 22-16 overall and 11-11 in conference.

Game One: ILCC 1, DMACC 10

The DMACC Bears used the long ball in game one to beat the Lakers 10-1.

The Lakers had runners in scoring position in four of the five innings, but could only muster one run in the third inning. Courtney Calkins led off the third inning with a walk and advanced to third on a Megan Remud double off the center field fence. Brittany  Evans then dropped in a ball on the left field line to score Calkins. DMACC worked out of the inning by getting Lauren Hein to fly out to left field.

Kelly Drake took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed ten runs, six earned, on eight hits and four walks. Caitlyn Clayton was 2-2 and Brittany Evans was 1-2 with an RBI.

Game Two: ILCC 5, DMACC 13

ILCC took the early lead, but DMACC battled back to take the 13-5 victory.

Brittany Evans led off the game with a single and then stole second base. She then advanced to third on a ground out by Baylee Bechen. Hein then hit a sacrifice fly to score Evans from third. Caitlyn Clayton stepped up with two outs and drove the ball over the left field fence to score the second run of the game. The Bears followed with a two run homerun of their own in the bottom of the first to even the score.

DMACC capitalized on three Laker errors  in the bottom of the second to score four runs. The Lakers scored one in the top of the third on an Evans single and a Lauren Hein double to make the score 6-3. The Bears scored one in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-3 ball game. The Lakers did not give up there, as they scored two in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to two. DMACC countered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to end to game 13-5.

Brittany Evans led the Lakers at the plate, going 3-4 with two stolen bases. Lauren Hein was also 1-2 at the plate with two runs batted in. Courtney Calkins took the loss for the Lakers, allowing thirteen runs, nine earned, on fourteen hits and four walks.

The Lakers will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 20th, against Northeast Community College. The game times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
