Lakers Sweep Northeast Community College

After an hour and a half rain delay, Laker Softball completes the sweep over the Northeast Community College Hawks. The Lakers combined for ten hits in five innings to win game one 8-0. Iowa Lakes then scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to win game two 8-0 in five innings.

Game One: ILCC 8, NCC 0

The Lakers struck first in the bottom of the first with a leadoff single and stolen base from Brittany Evans. She then scored on a double off the bat of Hein. ILCC scored two runs in the bottom of the second and third, highlighted by homeruns from Kauwalu and Hein. Iowa Lakes then scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to enforce the run rule.

Offensively, Brittany Evans, Lauren Hein, and Kelly Drake each had two hits in the game. Kelly Drake held the Hawks to four runs in five innings to pick up her tenth win of the season. 

Game Two: ILCC 8, NCC 0

Brittany Evans led off game two with a single before the game was delayed because of rain. After the ninety minute holdup, Hein stepped up and took the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to put the Lakers up 2-0. The Lakers scored another run in the bottom of the second when Megan Remund crossed the plate on a throwing error on an Evans single.

The Lakers were then held scoreless until they rallied in the bottom of the fifth to end the game due to the run rule. With two outs, Lauren Hein singled before Caitlyn Clayton crushed a ball over the left field fence. Shelby Davis, Courtney Calkins, and Kelly Drake then hit three consecutive doubles, before Remund hit the game ending single.

Courtney Calkins picked up the win for the Lakers. She pitched four complete innings, allowing five hits and striking out three. Brittany Evans led the Lakers, going 3-3 at the plate. Hein, Clayton, Calkins, and Remund each had two hits in the game.

The Lakers will travel to Fort Dodge on Saturday to take on the Iowa Central Tritons. The games will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
