Lakers Get Swept by Tritons

Iowa Lakes Community College softball suffered two losses to Iowa Central on Saturday. They dropped the first one 3-0 and the second 10-9 on a walk off hit. The Lakers fall to 13-13 in conference and 24-18 overall.

Game One: ILCC 0, ICC 3

Offensively, the Lakers could not get anything going in game one. They were held to just five hits in seven innings.

The Tritons scored in the second and fourth on solo homeruns and then again in the fifth on a double, stolen base, and single.

Kelly Drake took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Game Two: ILCC 9, ICC 10

The Lakers took the lead in game two in the second inning. Megan Remund walked and advanced to second on a ground out by Blaney Markman. Remund then came around to score on a Triton error off of a Brittany Evans bunt.

Iowa Central took the 3-1 lead after the third inning and then added another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Iowa Lakes came out in the top of the fifth and scored seven runs. Caitlyn Clayton led off with a walk before a pair of singles by Shelby Davis and Shawn Kauwalu loaded the bases. Markmen then picked up the RBI, scoring Clayton. The Lakers again took advantage of a Triton error, scoring two runs on an Evans hit. Baylee Bechen singled, to again load the bases. Lauren Hein then stepped in and hit a shot to the left center gap to clear the bases and give the Lakers the 8-4 lead.

The Tritons would not go away though, as they scored one in the bottom of the fifth on a homerun. The Lakers countered with a run of their own in the top of the sixth on a Courtney Calkins double and a Remund sacrifice fly. The Tritons again put up one in the sixth to make the score 9-6 entering the bottom of the seventh.

Iowa Central led off the seventh with a homerun. Calkins got the next two batters to fly out, before a walk, single, and walk would load the bases. The Tritons then came up with a single and walk off double to end the game 10-9.

Calkins took the loss for the Lakers, allowing nine earned runs. She allowed thirteen hits, while walking six and striking out two. Offensively, Shelby Davis was 3-2. Blaney Markman, Courtney Calkins, and Brittany Evans also had two hits in the game. Lauren Hein had three runs batted in.

The Lakers will play their final conference games tomorrow, April 24th, at Southwestern Community College.
