Iowa Lakes Softball Weekend Recap

The Iowa Lakes Softball team traveled south this weekend to get seven games in. They began their trip in Beatrice, NE where they went 1-1 against Southeast Community College. They then traveled to Concordia, KS where they went 4-1 various teams. Offensively for the weekend,  the team batted .368, hit 10 homeruns, and stole 38 bases. Their pitchers held their opponents to a batting average of .335 and had a fielding percentage of .953

Game 1  

The Lakers started their weekend with a 7-6 loss to Southeast Community College. Ashton Kazmierski took the loss for the Lakers going 6.2 innings. She allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Lauren Hein and Julia Sullwold both had two hits in the game, while Leilani San Pedro and Deanna Gerrard each homered.

Game 2

In game two, the Lakers got the bats going with a 16-1 win in five innings over Southeast Community College. Courtney Calkins picked up the win allowing one earned run on three hits and three strikeouts. The Lakers had seven girls with multi-hit games, while Lauren Hein and Montanna Popp went yard.

Game 3

The Lakers then took on Central Columbus Community College in their first game at the Cloud County Spring Tournament. Calkins picked up the 5-3 win for the Lakers going five innings. She allowed one run on eight hits and three strikeouts. Kazmierski  threw the final two innings allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one. Offensively, Gerrard was 2-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Game 4

Ashton Kazmierski picked up the 7-5 win over Northeast Community College in game two of the day. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Calkins picked up the save for the Lakers striking out two in the seventh inning. The Lakers were led offensively by Lauren Hein who was 2-4 with three runs batted in and one double.

Game 5

Kaitlyn Bowman picked up her first win of the year in game three with a 9-8 victory over Southeast Community College. She allowed two earned runs in three innings of work. Calkins pitched the final four innings for the Lakers, allowing three earned runs. Sullwold led the Lakers at the plate going 3-3 and swiping three bases. Shelby Davis, Desiree Lopez, Calkins, and Markman each had two hits in the game.

Game 6

Courtney Calkins picked up a big win over Division 1 JUCO Iowa Western in game one on Sunday. The Lakers run ruled the Reivers in their 14-4 victory. Calkins pitched six gem innings allowing four runs on ten hits and striking out five. Gerrard went 4-4 with two runs batted in, two runs scored, and four stolen bases. Kaitlin Walsh hit the game ending grand slam, while Hein and San Pedro each hit a homerun.

Game 7

The Lakers closed the weekend with an 8-6 loss to Highland Community College. Kazmierski picked up the loss for the Lakers allowing eight runs in six innings off fourteen hits. Montanna Popp, San Pedro, and Calkins all batted .500 in the game.


The Lakers will travel Saturday to Clermont, Florida to play twelve games over Spring Break.​
